Working with Moon Energy

What does it mean to work with moon energy?

Do you believe that you are part of something much greater than you can fathom? Do you believe that your thoughts, words and actions affect others in ways you will never know? Are you curious about magic? Do you feel an odd connection to the natural elements? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you probably already are working with moon energy.

I've been contemplating a deeper message in the union of the tarot cards pictured above from the "Thelema Tarot" by Renata Lechner. Wanting to leave aside the traditional meaning of the cards XIV Temperance and XVII The Star, I've been mesmerized by the magic and beauty of these two images. On their own, each has a powerful message; side by side the teachings are clearer and more powerful.

The background colours in the first card are earthy, fertile and rich signifying abundance or the potential for it. The angel's robes indicates her connection to Gaia and a deep respect for the opportunity to step upon Mother Earth. She is fully rooted both on the land and the water. Everything about her is in balance. She is completely at ease and in harmony with her yang energy represented by the gold cup and orange scarf; her right foot rests in the waters of the divine feminine. In the same way her left foot (though hidden) rests upon the land and supports her yin energy represented by the silver cup and blue scarf. The alchemy of the combined energy flows between the cups and creates divine sparks that emanate from it. Look at her focus, the softness and love in her face. This is the energy of the new moon: focus, creation and expansion.

Each new moon brings with it an invitation for creation, but this is more than writing a few words on a piece of paper. To work with this energy there needs to be trust, focus and a commitment. Set the intention, then take the necessary steps of action. The energy of the moon will work with you and through you AND you have to do some of the work too. And the next piece is - make it sacred. Know that you are not the doer. You are co-creating with the universe. That may be the secret that is often overlooked. You have fourteen days to work your magic step by step with the divine.

The background colours in the second card are watery, celestial and magical signifying a strong connection to higher powers and lunar energy. The woman's robes are in harmony with her environment and she is at home with this powerful energy. The magic she has created is so strong that she is floating above the water. All the hard work has paid off and she is reverence of and deep gratitude to the divine for all they have co-created this past 14 days. In celebration of her newfound abundance, she gazes upward and releases what she no longer needs back to the earth - into the waters of the divine mother. The wind flows though her robes assisting with the release and transformation. This is the energy of the full moon: gratitude, reverence and release.

As the moon expands over the next few hours to its fullness, bask in her light and be grateful for all that has manifested this past two weeks. Acknowledge and celebrate your co-creation with her - even if it didn't get to exactly where you had intended. You will have time to regroup and set new intentions in another two weeks. Tonight is a night for dancing in the moonlight and for allowing yourself a moment of sacredness with your femininity and ALL of her aspects. Look back at the Temperance card and see how she embraces her strength and her beauty. That is my prayer for you that you may feel as beautiful and graceful in your power as you feel powerful and strong in your beauty. The release tonight may be of regrets, material objects or long-held grudges. Whatever it is, hand it over with your whole heart and entrust it to the divine.

For the next few nights you may wish to continue your full moon celebration or continue to release anything that arises. Then from day 17 to 28, take time to integrate, restore and heal. Give yourself some quiet time each day so that you may be fully energized when the new moon comes 'round again. Love and peace to you all. Namaste.
