A Forty Day Journey with Sadhana

Spirit came a-calling a few months back and regularly woke me up before the birds with incessant chatter about offering a 40 day practice. Whether you call it a practice, a challenge or a sadhana depends on your point of view, and I suppose, your intention. And so I began to dangle a carrot on my YouTube channel to see who may be interested. It would be a big commitment offering a 40 day program, showing up everyday with enthusiasm and content worthy of a program like this, I thought. And so, I began to make notes in the wee hours of the morning as spirit rattled on:


Everyday we will:

move

breathe

chat

connect

laugh

cry

meditate

balance


Whether you join me or not, I am doing this for you

I am dedicating this 40 day sadhana to every soul who, for one reason or another, is unable to participate

This transformation is for you

all those souls who cannot find a voice

the in-law you've never been able to forgive

that little girl who was not allowed to get angry

the little boy who was not allowed to cry

Right now, right here, bring to mind one soul to whom you could dedicate a 40 day transformation Close your eyes and see their face

Fill your mind with their spirit and let them know that you would do this for them

Because you want to heal

Because you care

Because you feel deeply

Because your healing is intwined with those whose pain you feel


See the face of a soul you could dedicate your practice to

Hold their hands

Hold their heart

Breathe and look into their eyes and say

I am sorry

Please forgive me

I love you

Thank you

Now listen

They are saying it back to you

Are you ready?


This morning I am awoken again. Spirit is persistent. I get up and light a candle. My mala is buried under the covers. I reflect for a while on my own resistance to a regular practice and how I have cherry-picked what I am willing to do on a regular basis. I adjust my seat and begin my mantra practice. Then quiet - but not for long. Spirit is back on me about the 40 day practice so I find my phone and write some more:


Are you ready for

40 days of connection

40 days of movement

40 days of breath

40 days of feeling

40 days of inspiration

40 days of restoration

40 days of listening

40 days of laughing

40 days of crying

40 days of silence


Are you ready to commit to forty daily 90 - 120 minute sessions on zoom?

Will you try to attend in person most days?

If you are unable, will you actively participate as you watch the recording?


WHY? Isn't that the question? Why in the world would you do this?


I'm guessing that your nervous system could use an overhaul. It's time to check under the hood, change the oil, refill the fluids, replace the filters, replace some bearings, grind a few parts down . . . you get the picture.

• Move the body for 30 minutes.

• Practice breathing.

• Learn to still the mental chatter through guided meditation practices.

• Share, laugh and cry.

• Balance.

• Reflect and journal.
